Where the Sea Meets the Sky - El Milagro Del Agua
A Collaboration and Public Installation by Andrea Vargas-Mendoza, Alicia Piller and Niomi Fawn
Hosted by the AHA Progressive Arts Festival in Santa Fe, New Mexic, 2015
For this public installation, three artists came together to engage awe and reverence for oceanic ecology and the movement of water. Designed for a forty-eight hour weekend festival, the elements incorporated glow in the dark pigments and black lights. In the foreground were melting ice sculptures of crustaceans and shells. In the center was a mixed media sculpture by Alicia Pillar in which recurrent motifs of whales and waves were depicted. Ten-foot hand-painted silks illustrating jellyfish were painted by Andrea Vargas-Mendoza.
